News 12 has learned that the idea to include an image of Louis Farrakhan in a Black Lives Matter mural may have come from leaders in the town of Greenburgh.

An attorney representing the mural's lead artist says a slideshow was provided to Kindo Art by the Black Lives Matter mural committee as inspiration.

The name of Louis Farrakhan is included in slide 40.

As News 12 has reported, the town's supervisor ordered the image of Farrakhan be removed from the mural under the I-287 overpass, while many community members have come out in support of keeping it.

Some residents found the image offensive because of past antisemitic comments made by the leader of the Nation of Islam. Others see Farrakhan as a pivotal leader in the Black power movement.

Supervisor Paul Feiner says the town will participate in mediation and added he will not comment publicly until that process is complete.
