Damage from Ida is
delaying the start of school in Rye and Mamaroneck.
Both districts had buildings that sustained flood damage and, due to cleanup
and repairs, the start of the fall semester has been pushed back to Monday,
Sept. 13.
In a
statement, Rye superintendent Dr. Eric Byrne says in
part, “damage to the electrical system has completely disabled the
centralized network that runs the Internet, telephone and fire systems in all
of our school buildings.”
Until school opens, Byrne says the
district has “contacted many youth-serving organizations in Rye to explain this
challenge and request that they try to offer programming for school-aged
children on September 9th and 10th. They will share any information on
programming as soon as it is available.”
