More than 500 people took the famous "Ice Bucket Challenge" Sunday afternoon, vowing to take part in the event every August until a cure is found for Lou Gehrig's disease.
The challenge event was held at the Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway.
Yonkers native Pat Quinn, one of the challenge's originators, has been battling ALS since his diagnosis in 2013.
"We're going to do everything we can to keep the awareness going," Quinn says. "More awareness means more funding, and that's the goal."
The ALS Association raised more than $115 million last summer, due in part to the success of the Ice Bucket Challenge.
