A new Amazon warehouse is now under construction in
Mount Pleasant and is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to the Hudson
Valley.
The warehouse on Route 9A
will be the second Amazon distribution site in Westchester County.
According to Mount Pleasant
Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi, the $99 million project is being built on what
used to be the Green Valley Nursery.
Despite the snow and cold temperatures, construction crews
are hard at work, digging down deep because the site will have a two-story
garage underneath the facility.
Once it's completed, Amazon
expects to employ over 100 people at the location. And on top of the jobs,
another perk this faculty is bringing to the town is money.
Supervisor Fulgenzi says once
it's up and running, it will generate $1.5 million in property taxes. "It's a big name for the town
of Mount Pleasant. Amazon coming into the town of Mount Pleasant. I think it's
a positive thing for the town," says Fulgenzi.
Construction started about six
months ago, and the project is expected to take about two years.
