Hundreds gather in Mount Vernon to mourn the loss of rapper DMX
DMX is famously known for his association with Yonkers, but there was a lot of love for him in Mount Vernon Wednesday evening as hundreds gathered at the Fourth Street Playground to celebrate his life.
Candlelight vigils are usually solemn affairs, but this remembrance of DMX had the feel of a block party, as people celebrated the life of a man and artist who meant so much to the community. The event featured was prayer, personal testimonies - and music.
It culminated with red and black balloons being released into the air.
News 12 spoke with his cousin and some close friends about this celebration of his life. "It's a little overwhelming, but I think it's deserving because he meant so much to so many, and I'm looking at so many pictures and memories that people are sharing, and it's amazing he was able to put out albums and movies and still find the time to individually impact people's lives," said his cousin Katrina Simmons.
