Dozens of people in Rockland County became United States citizens Friday afternoon.

Family and friends packed the auditorium of the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona to watch 155 people take the oath of allegiance as an American citizen.

The audience included people from Greece, Ghana, Kosovo and 37 other counties, including Yemen and Egypt, both of which had been banned entry into the United States under the Trump administration.

One of the many who became citizens included the sister of a U.S. Army solider.

Originally from Mexico, she will join her brother, Will Salazar of New City, in serving her new country in her own way, and her brother says he couldn't be more proud.

"I love this country, I was born here. I'm an American and all my family wants to be an American and everyone has become American, but now we have a new American in the family as well," says Salazar.

Part of the oath of allegiance to America is to agree to serve in the United States Armed Forces if needed.

While Salazar's sister won't be serving in the military, she told News 12 she plans to do everything she can for her new country and the place that she's called home for the last 10 years.
