A human case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been confirmed in Ulster County, according to health officials.

The State Department of Health says it is the first human case of the virus in New York since 2015.

The virus is a serious and fatal mosquito-borne disease with no vaccine.

Ulster County authorities are urging residents to prevent mosquito bites by using insect repellants and wearing long sleeve clothing.
