Many schools in the Hudson Valley and across New York State are implemented early dismissal for students due to the high temperatures.
A bill was recently signed into law in New York that sets the maximum temperature a classroom can reach at 88 degrees before students must be removed. Most early dismissals are for elementary and middle school students or K through 8th grade.
At the high school level, regents and final exams are taking place for this final week of school so most are staying on schedule. Depending upon the district, scheduling for busses, breakfast, and lunches, special activities and more are being altered at many schools. Plans can differ in each district so parents should go on school websites, social media pages and check emails for changes.
