Shoppers descended upon the Cross County Shopping Center to return unwanted gifts from the holidays Thursday.
That's why the day after Christmas is known as the busiest return day of the year. People all across the area rushed to local shopping centers to exchange clothes that don't fit and gadgets that don't work.
"It's going to be madness and the parking lot is going to be even worse," said Iris Columbus, of Yonkers.
Consumer Reports offered some tips that can make holiday returns less stressful. They say gift getters should not open the box their presents came in, because without the original packing, customers may be charged a restocking fee.
They also say that it's extra important to keep receipts so that you can get a refund instead of just store credit. It's also important to bring an ID with you while returning.
Employees were hopeful that customers will be patient as the crowds hit.
"Give us time," says Stephanie Brown, of Yonkers. "Because it's a busy time of the year, or wait until after New Year's [Day] and then you can probably come in and return stuff."
