A Hudson Valley resident was sentenced Tuesday for their role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

Brian Gundersen, a Byram Hills High School graduate, received 18 months in prison after being found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and assault, resisting or impeding law.

Police say Gundersen illegally entered the Capitol grounds and entered the parliamentarian's office, where he saw rioters ransacking the room and left a note before leaving. After leaving the grounds, he re-entered the Capitol before officers pushed him back.

Gundersen was also sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution.
