Pharmacies nationwide are gearing up to administer the COVID-19 vaccine once approved.
Some of the retailers include CVS, Rite Aid, Hannafords, Walmart and Stop & Shop.
Stop & Shop tells News 12 its stores have standard-range refrigerators that can store about 100 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Ultra-cold storage still remains a big challenge for local pharmacies.
"It's unclear if retail pharmacies realistically will be able to carry that product because of strict storage requirements outside of fridge and freezer ranges," says Brittany Orlando, a clinical pharmacist at Stop & Shop.
Walgreens tells News 12 it has ultra-cold storage capabilities that it has been expanding with more freezers and dry-ice storage hubs - and is confident it is ready once doses hit its stores.
