A Hudson Valley animal sanctuary is asking for help with soaring energy costs.
Rescuers at the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in High Falls showed News 12 one of its most recent Central Hudson utility bills compared to this time last year.
It went up by more than 30% - even though it used less energy.
The nonprofit sanctuary has 11 meters with separate bills for 23 heated buildings and barns.
It says altogether, the bill for last month went up by $8,000.
“There’s no way we could have planned for a quadrupling of bills…for instance…one of our pig barns is usually about $500 to $700 to heat. $1,700 in January. There’s no way to plan for that," says Rachel McCrystal, of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.
A representative for Central Hudson says energy supply prices for all customers are expected to rise as much as 46% due to the current geo-political environment.
