White Plains Hospital is undergoing the biggest facilities expansion in its history.

Hospital officials and several Westchester elected officials were on hand for the official groundbreaking on the state-of-the-art, nine-story, 252,000-square-foot outpatient care center.

The Outpatient Center For Advanced Medicine and Surgery is located at the corner of Maple and Longview avenues. It will be adjacent and connected to both the main hospital and the Center for Cancer Care.

The $272 million facility is one of the most significant additions to the hospital's ongoing campus transformation.

Excavation started on the project in early February, and construction is expected take two years to complete.

The hospital is the city's largest employer - currently with about 3,500 staff members. It expects to add more than 400 jobs at the new outpatient care center.
