A teenage boy at Horace Greeley High School is accused of sexually abusing a 7-year-old child.
The 16-year-old student is facing a felony sexual abuse charge. A complaint obtained by News 12 states, "The defendant did subject another person to sexual contact who is less than 11 years of age." It goes on to say that he "did place the hand of a 7-year-old male child inside the defendant's pants."
The student, who lives in Chappaqua, is being charged as an adult. However, his attorneys are seeking youthful offender's status, so his name is being withheld.
This is the second child sex abuse incident involving someone at Horace Greeley High School. A former teacher faces multiple charges, including sexual assault and inappropriate conduct. The allegations against 41-year-old Christopher Schraufnagel, who taught speech and drama at the school, extend from May 2011 to June of this year. Schraufnagel is on administrative leave and faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
A spokesperson for Horace Greeley High School confirmed Friday that one of its students is under investigation, although the act in question did not take place on campus
