Hope Not Handcuffs reaches milestone in Rockland in effort to combat substance abuse problems
The nonprofit Hope Not Handcuffs has reached a milestone in its efforts to help people in the Hudson Valley fight substance abuse.
Rockland is now the first county in the Hudson Valley to have every law enforcement agency partner with them.
Hope Not Handcuffs helps people with substance abuse problems by letting them go into a police department and ask to speak with one of its volunteers. A person can also reach out to the organization through cards that officers hand out.
Hope Not Handcuffs says it's proud of how much the effort has grown.
"Having the full support of our law enforcement in Rockland County is a true tribute and testimony to this program," says Christina Michie, of Hope Not Handcuffs Hudson Valley. "It shows their belief in the program, and they know it works."
Cathy Kennedy, of Hope Not Handcuffs Hudson Valley, says police departments came to them looking to join the effort.
