The Middletown house that was knocked down by a disgruntled husband is finally being removed.
In January, Diane Andryshak came back from shopping to find that her husband, 48-year-old James Rhein, had bulldozed her house on Woodland Avenue.
On Wednesday, a private contractor hired by the city began removing the rubble. They say it should take about four days to clear the lot.
"The house was in bad shape," said Rhein. "The mortgage doesn't give the bank any rights to ownership. We have a property up the street we're going to build on, so we're good."
The city says it took so long to take action because it's still private property. The city finally took action because the site is a fire hazard and contains asbestos.
The city of Middletown is doing the cleanup at Rhein's expense.
Rhein is currently facing civil and criminal charges.
