An apparent home invasion in Spring Valley forced the East Ramapo School District into lockdown Tuesday.
According to police, an armed man burst into an apartment on North Main Street around 8 a.m. The occupants said the man pointed a gun at their heads, but got spooked and fled with nothing. Police say the suspect targeted the apartment.
An officer spotted the suspect about a mile away, but say the man took off through the Fred Hecht apartment complex. Investigators say the suspect ran through an apartment, ditched a gun, a ski cap and a bandana, ran out the back door, and got away. Police locked down the Spring Valley Head Start because it is right next to the apartment complex.
The lockdown on the schools was lifted a few hours later. Police say they are still searching for the suspect.
