With the long holiday weekend ahead, security will be heightened nationwide due to potential terror threats.

The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are issuing a joint intelligence bulletin encouraging all law enforcement to be vigilant and prepared. The bulletin doesn't warn of any known active plots, but is a general warning of heightened threats across the world.

The NYPD will be stepping up security for the July Fourth weekend, deploying what is likely to be its largest counterterrorism operation ever for the national holiday. For added security, police will use more critical response vehicles and a citywide strategic response group. Heavily armed Hercules Teams, canine cops and radiation-detecting devices will be on the ground. In addition, police helicopters will be patrolling the air and waterways.

With holiday travelers hitting the roads this weekend, major highways such as I-87 in Ardsley will see a heightened security presence.

Some residents say they are concerned about the possibility of terrorist attacks this weekend, while others say they don't plan to let it ruin their holiday.

Police will also be scanning the Internet, particularly because ISIS has been very active on social media. Officials say they will be focusing on potential lone terrorists operating in the U.S.
