Community members came together Tuesday to donate books for children to read during the holiday season.
The Yonkers Police Department and Fire Department collaborated with Barnes and Nobles on Central Avenue for their first annual Holiday Book Drive. Over 3,000 books have been donated and are going to the Yonkers Public Library.
"We're trying to get young children to read and we have a summer reading buddies program at the library that we participate in and it's just an opportunity to get children to read and get them interested in reading," Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said.
The Holiday Book Drive runs until Jan. 1.
