Members of the Kappa Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Hofstra University marked a major milestone Saturday by giving back to the community they have served for decades.

More than 70 undergraduate members and alumni gathered as part of the chapter’s 50th anniversary celebration at St. Paul’s A.M.E. Church in Rockville Centre for a large-scale community service initiative focused on addressing food insecurity and supporting local families.

Women who represented every generation of the chapter worked together to distribute food through a drive-up car line while helping to replenish the church’s food pantry, which organizers said was in urgent need of supplies.

In addition to food donations, volunteers also distributed clothing for all seasons to help families prepare for changing weather conditions throughout the year.

“My heart is so full. Service is a core part of who I am and a core part of who we are," said Jaidan Hill, president of the Kappa Phi Chapter. "Women of Alpha Kappa Alpha show up. We show up and provide for our community.”

Organizers said the initiative served as both a celebration of the chapter’s rich history and a reflection of its continued dedication to meeting the needs of Long Island families in need.
