The Freeport Police Department has a female Hispanic sergeant and a Guyanese American sergeant for the first time.
Sgt. Melissa Rodriguez is the first female Hispanic sergeant in the department’s history. Rodriguez was promoted on Tuesday.
Sgt. Jayson Kaulesar, also promoted and sworn in on Tuesday, is making history. He is the first Guyanese American sergeant in the village police department.
“They’re going to be an inspiration and a role model to the members of the community and I think they’re going to do well," says Freeport Police Chief Michael Smith.
