20h agoA historic Crown Heights school that was one of the first racially integrated schools in New York City will soon house those without a home.
The building at 1634 Dean St. is being converted into a shelter for families. According to city records, a permit for the shelter was issued earlier this year.
Residents in the Crown Heights area that spoke with News 12 were overwhelmingly accepting of a family shelter being brought to their neighborhood.
"This is where you can start over,” said one Crown Heights resident.
The Department of Social Services was unable to confirm when the shelter will be up and running.
