Hillary Clinton launches campaign on Roosevelt Island

Hillary Clinton officially kicked off her 2016 presidential run Saturday afternoon on Roosevelt Island. Thousands gathered as the Chappaqua resident delivered her first campaign speech at Franklin D.

Hillary Clinton officially kicked off her 2016 presidential run Saturday afternoon on Roosevelt Island.
Thousands gathered as the Chappaqua resident delivered her first campaign speech at Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park.
Topics covered by Clinton included gay rights, equal pay for women and economic growth, specifically among the middle class. She says that she wants to make the nation's economy work for everyday Americans.
"Prosperity can't be just for CEOs and hedge fund managers," Clinton said during her speech. "Democracy can't be just for billionaires and corporations. Prosperity and democracy are part of your basic bargain, too."
Clintonas speech invoked former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who aides say is a role model for Clinton.
Clinton's husband and former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea Clinton were in attendance.
