As school districts try to reopen as safely as possible, high school athletic coaches are planning for a fall season that may not even happen.
While the state is allowing in person-learning at schools, a decision on high school sports has yet to be made.
Coaches who spoke to News 12 say they are assigning virtual workouts and staying in communication with players.
But they say it's hard to plan with so much uncertainty. "I do feel that if we can be safe in the classroom, that can give us some optimism for being on the athletic field," says Lakeland Field Hockey Coach Sharon Sarsen.
If high school sports are allowed, the season would begin Sept. 21.
If the fall season is canceled, there are tentative plans to move sports, like field hockey, football and volleyball, to the spring.
