Did the holidays leave your pockets a bit light?
The State Office of Unclaimed Funds might hold your solution! Recent stats reveal generous holiday spending—nearly a grand per person on gifts—might have some seeking extra cash.
The Turn to Tara team checked with the offices of unclaimed funds and found out that Connecticut has $1 billion ready to send out, another $6 billion is waiting for you over in New Jersey, and a whopping $18 billion waiting to be claimed in New York.
New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli advises, "Search not only your name but also relatives."
The claim process is easy: Visit your state's unclaimed funds site, enter your name, and await a prepaid debit card arriving within a week.
Yet, there's more! Explore other databases like the IRS, VA, and Screen Actors Guild.
But beware of companies exploiting these databases. DiNapoli warns against recovery companies contacting you with fees.
