A commercial helicopter made an emergency landing on the soccer field at a school in Briarcliff Manor Friday morning.
The helicopter landed on the soccer field at Todd Elementary School on Ingham Road just before 9 a.m. No children were on the field at the time, but the school went into lockdown mode as a precaution.
School Superintendent James Kaishian says he saw the helicopter flying very low and it appeared to be in distress. He says he later learned the pilot saw a warning light and had to land quickly.
The helicopter was on its way from New London, Connecticut to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The pilot spent two hours on the field before getting the approval from the FAA to leave.
