With temperatures soaring, communities across the Hudson Valley are taking steps to keep residents cool and safe.
At Doyle Park in Yonkers, members of the Yonkers Fire Department have set up a special sprinkler for children to beat the heat until 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, up in Newburgh, residents can cool off at fire hydrants on Walsh Road behind the Mullins Apartments, which will be open until 3 p.m.
For weeks, health officials have been warning about the dangers of extreme heat, urging people to utilize cooling centers, pools, and beaches.
Local doctors are seeing an increase in heat exhaustion, dehydration, and severe sunburns. Dr. Juliette Provenzano-Gober, of Urgent Care of Westchester in Tarrytown, says the heat poses additional challenges for people with medical conditions.
"The weather makes it so much harder for everyone to regulate their temperatures and get the fluids they need and get the electrolytes they need," said Dr. Provenzano-Gober.
