Tempers heated up at a county pool in Yonkers on one of the hottest days, forcing the pool to close early.
The Sprain Ridge pool was packed all week due to the extremely hot weather and pool hours were extended until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night, lifeguards ordered everyone out of the pool after a child was reported missing around 6 p.m. The child was reunited with his family but before the safety check was completed, about a dozen people jumped back in. Authorities say fights broke out and several police departments were called in to assist.
One person was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Lifeguards called in sick Thursday, possibly because of the incident, and the pool didn?t open Thursday morning. Lifeguards were pulled from other county pools and the facility opened later in the day.
