The extreme heat gripping the Hudson Valley has prompted a change of venue for the Orange-Ulster BOCES graduation ceremony.
The ceremony, originally scheduled for Faller Field Stadium at Middletown High School, will now take place at Eisenhower Hall at West Point.
The Enlarged City School District of Middletown announced the move on Facebook Tuesday, noting the ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. The district said air-conditioned buses will be available to transport attendees from the parking areas to Eisenhower Hall.
Orange-Ulster BOCES Deputy Superintendent Donna Melchionni confirmed the move in a statement on the district's Facebook page, adding that the district has notified families of the change via phone calls and emails.
The decision to relocate the ceremony was made to ensure the safety and comfort of graduates and attendees during the heat wave.
