Health officials believe a meal replacement drink may have sickened dozens of students at the Copper Beach Middle School in Yorktown Wednesday.
According to health officials, 20-50 students got severely nauseated and complained of stomach pain after drinking a product called Bravo. School officials say the cafeteria director recently signed off for Bravo to distribute its low-fat drink at the school. However, they say the company instead showed up with a diet supplement drink.
Health officials say they think the students became ill not because of something bad in the drink, but because they drank too many of the free samples. However, health inspectors are testing the drinks for any foreign substances.
Affected students were picked up by their parents and did not go to the hospital. School officials say in light of what happened, they plan to improve the regulation of what is brought into the school.
