The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's test on the presumed case of monkeypox in New York City came back inconclusive, according to the health department.

Doctors, however, are still treating it like a positive case. That means contact tracing for those who could've been exposed and people who've had close or intimate contact with the patient.

"Monkeypox is difficult to transmit and easier to contain. It's not like SARS-COVID 19 where somebody could've passed it to somebody without knowing. So I think the panic level should still be low," says Dr. Pal Lam, of NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County.

Monkeypox can start with a fever and progress into a rash. Anyone who notices lesions on their body is urged to contact a doctor right away.
