A 16-year-old boy killed in a fiery car crash last Saturday had only a learner's permit, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Police say Aidan Galeano, of New Rochelle, was speeding on Wilmot Road when his vehicle veered into a shopping center, collided with a metal light post, and burst into flames. He died of blunt force trauma and smoke inhalation.
A nursing home employee has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a disabled resident at a facility in Somers. State police say 51-year-old Jossette Thompson of Dover physically attacked a resident at The Paramount, Somers Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. The condition of the victim is unclear. Thompson now faces a felony charge of endangering the welfare of a disabled person. She is due back in court later this month.
A man is behind bars for allegedly making a terroristic threat against an Ulster County social services office. The sheriff's office says 37-year-old Michael Bassile allegedly told social service workers on Monday that he would blow up the office building. Staff members reported him to police, and he was later found in Kingston. When taken into custody, deputies found crack cocaine on Bassile. He faces charges of making a terroristic threat and possession of drugs. He remains in jail without bail due to previous felony convictions.
