Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A Putnam County judge has handed down a 14-year sentence to a convicted rapist. Martiliano Ramos-Miguel, 45, of Brewster, pleaded guilty to rape and child endangerment in October. Once Ramos-Miguel is released from prison, he will have 10 years of supervision and be registered as a sex offender. Prosecutors reacted to the sentencing saying his victims’ voices were heard, and their abuser was brought to justice.
A Yonkers man witnessed the horrifying moments of a man opening fire on the steps of St. John the Divine Sunday afternoon and managed to record the incident with his cellphone. Steven Wilson says gunfire rang out from the top of the cathedral steps just moments after an outdoor concert ended. Officials say officers fired 15 rounds back, killing the suspect. No one else was injured.
Police are searching for a man who pulled a gun during the robbery of a New Rochelle liquor store over the weekend. Police say the suspect walked into B-M-K Wines & Liquors on Main Street and stole $400 in cash. Officers say when the employee tried to stop him, the suspect pulled out a gun and was able to get away. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (914) 654-2300.
