Rigoberto Lopez Castro, a resident of Spring Valley, has been found guilty of three felonies related to the rape of a woman he knew. Authorities state that Castro raped the woman on two consecutive nights. He has been convicted on two counts of rape and burglary. Castro faces a maximum sentence of up to 25 years on each count. His sentencing is scheduled for June.
Darren Smith, a resident of New Rochelle, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for assaulting an FBI task force officer and other offenses. The sentencing took place in federal court in White Plains. Smith's charges stem from a 2020 incident where Yonkers police attempted to stop a car he was driving in Getty Square. Smith fled the scene and fired five shots during the pursuit, although no one was injured. He was eventually apprehended and convicted on various charges.
John Towers, a resident of Mahopac in Putnam County, has been arrested by the sheriff's department on charges related to child pornography. Towers is accused of promoting and possessing a sexual performance by a child.
