Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Steve Brewer, a resident of Port Jervis, has been sentenced to up to six years in prison for setting a fire that damaged property belonging to the Port Jervis Youth Program. Brewer admitted to setting fire to a cargo container containing bikes, helmets, and other items in 2021. After being released on bail, Brewer fled and was later apprehended in Ohio. In addition to his prison sentence, Brewer will be required to pay more than $7,000 in damages.
Trevon Hudson, a resident of Middletown, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a child under the age of 13. Hudson admitted to engaging in a sexual act with the child. Upon his release, Hudson will be subject to 10 years of supervision and must register as a sex offender.
The Dutchess County Medical Examiner is investigating the death of an inmate at Green Haven Correctional Facility. Carmelo Rivera, a 58-year-old from the Bronx, was found dead at the facility on Monday. Rivera had been incarcerated since 2016.
