Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
A Spring Valley man is dead after drowning in the Memorial Park Pond. Village police say they received reports yesterday afternoon that the man entered the water and never surfaced. Divers were called in and eventually pulled his body from the water. The victim is described as a Hispanic male, believed to be approximately 40 years old, who lived in Spring Valley. Police say they are trying to determine his identity. The public is asked to contact the Spring Valley Police Department at 845-356-7400 with any information regarding this incident.
A criminal defense attorney has pleaded guilty in connection with a 2019 fatal drunk driving crash. Robert Schuster, 53, of Bedford, left a holiday party and was driving eastbound on Route 172 when his car crossed over the double yellow line and struck another vehicle. Mount Kisco resident Diego Trejo, 22, was killed in the accident, along with his dog. Schuster entered a guilty plea to aggravated vehicular homicide charges. He will be sentenced on Nov. 3
The city of Yonkers has moved into the top three for largest cities in New York State. According to the 2020 census, Westchester's largest city leap-frogged Rochester for third place in the state - recording 211,569 people. That number edged fourth place Rochester by just 241 people.
