According to the state comptroller, 2023 saw over 1,000 reported hate crimes statewide, marking a 69% increase from five years ago.
In the Hudson Valley, Westchester County recorded the highest number of incidents with 52. Rockland County reported 26 incidents, while Dutchess and Orange Counties each reported 13 incidents.
Brooklyn had the highest number of incidents in the state.
Nearly half of all hate crimes reported last year were motivated by religion.
