A Harrison High student is launching a conservative club at his school as the country transitions power to a Democratic president.
Luke Wong, 17, has been trying to start a Young Americans for Freedom chapter for the past two years.
His mission was to spread conservative ideas on campus.
He says Harrison High rejected his club application several times - until Christian nonprofit Alliance Defending Freedom threatened lawsuit for violating First Amendment rights.
In a statement, Harrison Superintendent said the school used the same review process for Young Americans for Freedom as it does for any other club. It also added that the school rejected the initial proposal because the club had to be open to all students.
Now that the school has approved the group, the Young Americans for Freedom had its first meeting Tuesday with about a dozen members.
