Hundreds of mourners attended Thursday's funeral for the Harrison High School student whose sudden death stunned the community.
Andrew Gurgitano's funeral was held at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Harrison. Family and classmates were joined by many police officers, as Gurgitano's father is a New Castle police officer. Yankees Manager Joe Girardi also came to pay his respects.
The high school junior died in his sleep Saturday of a stroke. Family, friends and classmates remembered the 16-year-old, who pitched for the varsity baseball team at Harrison High School, as a kind-hearted teenager who was always smiling.
Gurgitano was laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Chester after the funeral.
