Democrat state Sen. Peter
Harckham has won re-election in the 40th State Senate District.
Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino called
Harckham to concede the election.
Astorino is currently leading by less than 500 votes.
But 15,000 absentee ballots still have to be opened in
Westchester.
So far, Harckham has won 75% of the absentees opened and
that is expected to continue.
Harckham says he’s grateful for “the tremendous support he
received and in these challenging times, he looks forward to being engaged in
the hard work necessary to ensure a better future for all.”
This will be Harckham’s second term.
The district includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and
Dutchess counties.
Harckham’s victory solidifies the Democrats holding a veto-proof majority in the Senate.
