The gun buy-back program in Yonkers is heading into its third week and police have already collected 490 guns. Police say they have passed out nearly $82,000 to the people who turned in the guns. Jim Bostic of the Anti-Violence Coalition says he realizes this is only the tip of the iceberg. He runs a summer day camp program at the Nepperham Community Center where he works to turn the next generation away from gangs and guns. Bostic also leads the city?s violence and gang prevention coalition. While the police crack down on illegal gun possession he hopes to drive home a positive message to the young boys and girls. A Community Anti-violence Meeting is set for Monday August 21, at 7 p.m. at the Nepperham Community Center on Warburton Ave. in Yonkers. The gun buy-back program finishes up at the end of August.
