Guardian Angels to patrol near Ferry Point Park following deadly double shooting

Family and friends spent the last three days mourning the loss of 22-year-old Gabriel Alvarez and 29-year-old and Adam Waldropt.
They were both killed on Monday, just before sunrise at Ferry Point Park in Throgs Neck.
"Words can't describe how amazing Gabriel and Adam were," said Genessi Richardson, a friend of the victims.
Richardson worked with Alvarez at Oak Street Health, where he was an outreach executive.
"They were such amazing people, they were both great people, two people I admired, honestly I looked up to them... they were the best, words can't even come out properly on how horrible this situation is," said Richardson.

"When I first found out, I just started bawling my eyes out, there was no other thing to do, I called him I called Adam, it was horrible," said Richardson.
The shooting was the second in two days on the desolate street.
Police say a 21-year-old survived after he was shot in the stomach on July 26, just before 4 a.m.
Councilmember Kristy Marmorato says a patrol car was parked on the block until around 3 a.m., when they were dispatched to another call.
"There was a patrol car here until about 3 a.m. They had to respond to another disturbance, and they only have three patrol cars surveilling the entire 45th Precinct in the evening, we are short staffed," said Marmorato.
Marmorato says they have funded two surveillance cameras to be installed in the area. They are also taping into other resources, like the Guardian Angels, a volunteer group with a goal to fight crime unarmed.
"As the summer wears on, there is going to be more and more young people hanging out in Ferry Point Park and other parks and the police need all the help they can get," said Curits Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angles and Republican candidate for mayor.
Richardson says he is glad leaders are taking notice.
"I'm glad to hear it's on their radar. We just want justice for Gabriel and Adam," said Richardson.
