Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis might have one more shot at staying in office if a group behind a write-in campaign gets its way.
Davis decisively lost the primary election in September to Councilman Richard Thomas.
The group "United Citizens for Mount Vernon" has been blanketing the city's streets with fliers educating voters on how to write Davis' full name on the ballot, as required by election law.
News 12 was unable to reach Davis for comment. He has said, however, that he is not actively seeking another term.
Were Davis interested in a fifth term, Reginald Lafayette, the Democratic head of the Board of Elections and a Davis supporter, says it would be almost impossible for a write-in candidate to win the general election.
Election Day is Nov. 3.
