Ground was broken Tuesday for an affordable housing project in Mott Haven.
The Brook Avenue development will have 66 apartment units, a roof terrace, a playground, a bike room and an underground parking garage for tenants.
Developers say they chose the location on East 147th Street to provide working families with an affordable modern place to live, with all the amenities. Families who earn roughly between $30,000 and $50,000 per year have to apply through the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Qualified applicants will be chosen by lottery next year.
It is the first affordable housing development in the Bronx for Yuco Management, which has buildings and other real estate properties in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The company says they chose to build in Mott Haven because of the borough's continued growth.
Construction of the Brook Avenue Apartments is expected to be competed in 2016.
