An army of robots are filling online grocery orders in Gowanus after a new micro-fulfilment center opened two weeks ago.

"Especially since the pandemic, people have gotten accustomed to ordering online and getting them delivered," said Jonathan Morav, vice president of sales and customer success at Fabric.

Fabric is the company that designed and built the center for grocery chain Save a Lot.

Orders come in on the Uber Eats app and are delivered across Brooklyn by Uber drivers.

"What we've been able to do here is deploy a site that will do similar or more volume than what a typical store front will do, but for a fraction of the cost," said Morav.

Groceries are picked by robots and packed by a crew of 20 people now employed at the center.

A 50 item order can be packed in less than 8 minutes and the efficiency equals savings for shoppers.

"Your typical gallon of milk in Brooklyn costs about $6," said Morav. "We're offering it for $3.50."
