Greyston Early Learning Center set to close in Yonkers
Part of a Yonkers day care center that has been in business for 20 years is set to close.
Over the winter break, parents found out that Greyston Early Learning Center on Warburton Avenue is closing its doors due to financial issues.
Parents say it was one of only a few centers in southwest Yonkers that accepts Title 20, a financial assistance program.
Parents or guardians of infants have until March 31 to find a new place to go. Parents or guardians of toddlers have until the end of January.
Many parents say they can't afford to find a new place.
"I'm going to have to send my kids to a $40,000 day care. Or quit my job and stay home with my children," says Andi Bray, mother of two.
According to a spokesperson at Greyston, the center does receive financial support from the Westchester County Department of Social Services, but that support falls short of covering all the costs associated with the program.
Greyston released a statement that says in part, "We are currently working with families to get all children currently enrolled placed in new programs before we close."
Early Learning Center is the only program at Greyston that is closing.
