An Orange County man is behind bars after allegedly ordering an 80-pound pit bull to attack a New Windsor police officer.
Police were called to an apartment on Kenwood Drive in New Windsor early Wednesday morning because of an argument between neighbors. They say Gregory Hines became aggressive and ordered his pit bull to attack an officer.
Officers were forced to shoot the dog in the head, killing the animal.
Hines has been charged with second-degree assault. The officer was treated for a dog bite and released.
