Repairs on the massive Greenburgh water main break that affected about 1,000 residents has been fixed, and town officials say everyone should have their water back today.
Greenburgh town officials say the repairs were completed Monday afternoon, but it takes hours for all the tanks and the pipe to fill back up.
The Westchester County Health Department issued a boil water advisory due to the incident, and it is still in effect. People are strongly advised to boil all tap water at a rolling boil for at least 1 minute before drinking or using water to prepare food, wash dishes by hand or brush teeth. The advisory does not extend to bathing, washing clothes or using a dishwasher. Greenburg Town Supervisor, Paul Feiner says the town could have done a better job in handling the situation saying,
"If there is an emergency– we should open up the community center, work with volunteers, provide residents with the opportunity to take a shower, brush their teeth. Perhaps, offer residents bottled water."
Feiner says he's putting together a task force to come up with ways to improve emergency response in the future, and anyone who would like to participate is asked to send an e- mail to
