Leaders and residents in the Town of Greenburgh are calling on Con Ed to detour motorists in the right direction during construction and repair work.
Residents like Miriam Vega say they've been paying the price for the improvements being made by Con Edison.
"Sometimes we were stuck in our houses. Right in front of my house, there was a big pile of dirt at one point. We really couldn't navigate around it. Walking my dogs has been near impossible," she said.
Residents say traffic delays and inconvenience have become an unwelcome way of life on streets, including Central Avenue, South Washington Avenue and West and East Hartsdale Avenues.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says there is a solution.
"If the town and Con Ed could use digital boards and message boards and publicize where the delays are going to be, I think people will be happier," he says.
Feiner says the town plans to purchase digital message boards, paying a cost of about $100,000. He says it will be taxpayer money well spent.
"I think we should make an effort to at least notify motorists in advance so they can avoid inconveniences," Feiner says.
Con Edison Spokesperson Jamie McShane issued a statement in response that reads in part, "Con Edison is committed to keeping the community safe and working with residents and local officials to address concerns, mitigate traffic issues and provide updates on our work schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and look forward to working in partnership with the community."
