Federal firefighters at West Point say the government shutdown is forcing them to work without pay.

The firefighters are owed around 10,000 hours of pay, according to the union.

The union released a statement about the subject. It read in part:

"Our members are continuing to honor our oath to serve our country while our politicians continue to play political chess..."

Friday marked day 24 of the shutdown, which is the second longest in history.
